Week 7

The week after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and no sleep or lack of sleep for 4+ days...but here we go!

but really
I have a feeling it's going to be a bad week. I am not sure why I have caught every bug there is floating around out there, but I also think I may have got...or started to get my very first migraine on Sunday...or maybe I am just mental and my body is trying to tell me I shouldn't run....EVER! Ha

This weeks workout is the same for each day, 5 minute warmup, 2.5 miles or 25 minutes, 5 minute cool-down.

Sunday: Day off
Monday: Day off
Tuesday: Started off a little...well, it was something...a quick pause and changing of my sports bra, cause lets be honest the 'girls' shouldn't be going one way and the sports bra the other direction, ran 3.2 miles in 35:08 minutes.
Wednesday: sometimes I open my blinds and pretend all my neighbors are watching me in an effort not to give up or cheat, cause lets face facts I can jump off the treadmill and just let it run on its own! Great run until 20 minutes in when I mentally tried to figure out why I was sweating so much, note to self make sure the fan is on! Ran 3.2 miles in 35 minutes
Thursday: day off
Friday: walked and ran at a lower speed than earlier this week which resulted in 3.11 miles in 35 minutes
Saturday: Day off

Total miles this week: 9.51

Can you believe it, it's week 6

It's week 6 and another week of different workouts each day. Each work out has a 5 minute warm-up followed by a 5 minute cool-down. #1 - jog for 5 minutes, walk for 3 minutes, jog for 8 minutes, walk for 3 minutes, jog for 5 minutes, #2 - jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes), walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes), jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes), #3 - jog 2 1/4 miles (or 22 minutes) with no walking.

Sunday: Day off
Monday: 6.1 workout in which I completed 2.82 miles in 34 minutes
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: 6.2 workout, 2.83 miles in 33 minutes
Turkey Day Thursday: just because I can run, 2.86 in 33 minutes
Black Friday: shopping all night = 'there is no way in hell I'm running, not even if ten thousand zombies were chasing me!"
Saturday: awful workout! I knew I should have just skipped this workout..strike that...I should have ran with my headphones in. Best song during my workout, Stick em up by Ludacris, and if you must know I did put my hands up on several occasions! Completed 2.84 miles in 32 minutes.

Total miles for the week 11.35 miles

I didn't die...so on to week 5

As my headline states, I not only survived week 4 of Couch to 5K, I even added additional workouts. Besides ending my week with pretty good workout results (total of 12.37 miles) I got the pleasure of getting a nice sinus infection! Thankfully it limited itself to only one side and the decongestants seem to be keeping it contained, while allowing me to breath. Eric greatly thanks the manufacturers of my little pills!

So a little few notes about this weeks workouts. This is the first week where each workout is a different routine. #1 is alternating jogging 5 minutes (3 runs) with walking 3 minutes (2 walks), #2 is jogging 8 minutes (twice) and walking 5 minutes (once), and #3 is jogging 20 minutes (goal for 2 miles in that time). For my convenience, throughout the entire Cto5K training I walk at a speed of 4.0 and jog at 6.0 and I also follow the minute schedule (as listed above) instead of mileage. More times than not I run on my treadmill and it is much easier to calculate minutes versus mileage and my treadmill has speed buttons, so it's easier to hit 4, then scroll up and down to a desired speed.

Sunday: Sick with sinus infection
Monday: Going to try to run this sinus infection right out of me! Had a great run, even though I was congested and listened to the radio during my run. Cto5K week 5.1, 2.51 miles in 31 minutes.
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: why do the walking parts of my workout end so quickly and the running part take so long? Workout 5.2 resulted in 2.53 miles in 31 minutes.
Thursday: Day off
Friday: first workout that required jogging the entire time (except warm up and cool down), 2.63 miles in 30 minutes. I had such a great run that I may actually repeat this workout tomorrow!
Saturday: And yesterdays motivation did not carry over to today...DANG! Oh well another day off for me this week!

Total miles this week 7:67 in 92 minutes.

On to week 4

And I think I am going to die!!!!

The last few weeks of running have been nice and easy, run for 90 seconds walk for a minute and a half, run for 3 minutes walk for 5. You know that kind of nice, where you walk more than you run. But oh my goodness, I about died just reading what this weeks running workout entailed. And I swear if I hadn't already changed my clothes, had mu running shoes on, and the treadmill already going before I saw the workout I might have not even started it.

This weeks motto is going to be: Unless you are passed out, vomiting, or dead you WILL NOT STOP...oh and injured, and.... (just kidding). So lets get this week started!

Sunday: Day off
Monday: Cto5K 4.1, 2.59 miles in 31.30 minutes
Tuesday: Cto5K 4.2, 2.59 miles in 31.30 minutes
Wednesday: Day off
Thursday: Cto5K 4.3, 2.6 miles in 31.30 minutes
Friday: Cto5K extra day, 2.59 miles in 31.30 minutes
Saturday: took a little stroll on the treadmill (to drown out all the 'couching' coming from the other room) 2 miles in 31.50 minutes.

I obviously survived week 4, so much that extra workouts were thrown into the week.

I guess it was meant to be...

We...okay I am repeating week 3 of Cto5K. Believe me I had only thought about doing it and I honestly had no intention of actually repeating the week, even though I only completed 2 of the 3 workouts last week due to illness. But as I logged onto my app to start my run, my week 3 was not checked off as completed...not one single workout. I have pictures to prove I ran, yes I am that mental that I take a pic of my treadmill after my run, I even log it into dailymile.com and then again on this blog, pathetic I know, but it's my motivation on what I have done, what I am capable of doing, and it pushes me to go further. So with all that said, here is to repeating last week...with better results!

Sunday: Day off
Monday: Cto5K (take 2) 3.1,  2.1 miles in 28 minutes
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: Cto5K 3.2, 2.11 miles in 28 minutes, Pilates
Thursday: walked on the treadmill, 2 miles in 30 minutes
Friday: Cto5K 3.3, 2.15 miles in 28 minutes
Saturday: Cto5K 3.extra, 2.15 miles in 28 minutes

Total miles for the week: 10.51. Pilates this week just didn't click. I am not sure if it was because it was a new routine or I just wasn't in to it, but I will give it another go next week.

Weekly workout summary

Whoohoo week 3 of a somewhat normal workout routine...okay maybe not. I had previously downloaded a Couch to 5K running app on my phone and realized last week that the 'free' app I had only gave you a limited amount of workouts and the last one was 3.1, bummer. Luckily I still have my printout of the workout schedule I followed last year, so I didn't have any excuse to not continue. You may question why I would download an app to begin with, especially since i only run on my treadmill, in my house! But I honestly thought an app would be motivation to start running outside.

Sunday: Day off
Monday: Cto5K 2.10 miles in 28 minutes
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: Cto5K 2.10 miles in 28 minutes
Thursday: Sick
Friday: Sick
Saturday: Sick

Okay, I will be the first on to admit my sickness probably wasn't severe enough to skip at least my final run of the week, nor pilates all week long. This little bug was more of the annoying nausea  ALL day long, headaches all day (thankfully I don't get migraines), and I felt like I could sleep forever although the longest I slept on either of these 'sick days' was until noon. But now the week is over, I am somewhat kicking myself for the minimum amount of exercise I have done. So here is to another week and hopefully a bit more motivation to get off my tush and burn some calories!

Workout summary week 2

Even though Breanna is out of school this week, I am not going to let that interfere with working out. It may alter it a bit, but I am not going to let it be the reason to not do anything. So far I am off to a good start, even with Bre up, fully dressed, and ready for the day at 6AM on Monday morning.

Sunday: Day off
Monday: Walking outside (with Ms B) 1.25 miles which took 28 minutes cause she walks slow and she really didn't want too! Also did 2.06 miles on the treadmill for week 2.1 of Cto5K.
Tuesday: Day off
Wednesday: Not feeling so great, feverish, nausea, headache for last two days, so I figured I might as well attempt to run this bug right out of me. Cto5K 2.2, 2.16 miles in 30 minutes.
Thursday: Day off
Friday: Pilates - On Demand program, beginners body/ Pilates, 36 minutes
Saturday: Cto5K 2.3, 2.3 miles in 31 minutes.

According to dailymile.com I ran 6.52 miles and my run on Friday put me at 300 miles for the year.

Well hello treadmill...

I finally have enough stuff unpacked and put into its proper place (hopefully) and a free moment...actually not really a free moment, but the ability to take some time for myself without feeling guilty to exercise. While I don't give myself a lot of time, usually 30 minutes or less, I was able to

Monday: Pilates, a beginners program I found through On Demand
Tuesday: Pilates
Wednesday: Cleaned the garage, re-arranged furniture, along with several hours of other misc housework, so I AM adding this to my workout week (heck I probably should log every day since our stuff arrived as a workout...but I won't)
Thursday: Couch to 5K, week 1.1, 26 minutes, 1.86 miles
Friday: Nothing...lazy bum
Saturday: Nothing, even bigger bum

Total running distance, per dailymile.com: 3.88 miles. Nothing really to brag about, but at least I am moving again (as in exercising not moving, moving!)

Workout 9.2 - The END!

I can't believe it, but today is the last day of my couch-to-5k workout.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at 6.2, for a total of 35 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk), which resulted in 3.43 miles.

Since this was my last workout I wanted to get an idea of my speed per mile.

Mile 1 was completed in 9.43 minutes.
Mile 2 was completed in 9.79 minutes.
Mile 3 was completed in 9.80 minutes.

So my times are no where near bragging rights, but not too bad for jogging, especially in my own home on a treadmill...bor-ring!

Now my test will be if I can keep up my 3 day a week running schedule and improve my time and distance!

Workout 9.1

Whoo-hoo last week of training!!!

This weeks training is a 5-minute brisk walk followed by a 3-mile jog (or 30-minutes).

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged the first mile at a pace of 6.0 and the last two miles at 6.2, for a total of 35 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk), which resulted in 3.39 miles.

Workout 8.2

So I am not sure if I am catching something or I am letting a comment made by my doctor last week affect me.  Today, I decided to do a run, even though I usually don't run on Tuesdays or Thursdays.  But shortly into my run, I was having a little wheezing so I took 2 puffs off my inhaler and kept on going.  I did pretty good during my run, a little warmer than usual but no big deal, however after my run I have the shakes pretty bad.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 6.0 - 6.2 (the last 5 minutes at 6.2), for a total of 33 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 3.15 miles.

Workout 8.1

Only 2 more weeks of my training workout!!!

This week workout is to start with a 5-minute brisk walk followed by 2.75 miles (or 28 minutes).

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 6.0, for a total of 33 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 3.12 miles.

Workout 7.2

Don't you just love when you are so engaged in your workout that you forget you are actually working out, especially when running?  Until...things start flying off the treadmill.  I often have a handful of items on my treadmill such as a bottle of water, a few Kleenex, my workout schedule, a few pieces of paper to write down my daily workout results, a pen, and a towel.  First thing to fly, my pen, no worries though it just rode the belt to the end landing nicely on the carpet.  Luckily this did not ruin my concentration on my run.  I actually got in such a trance I forgot I was running.

Until...my foot hit the front of the treadmill, making me lose my balance and become very thankful that 1) there are handles on the treadmill to catch yourself and 2) I was in my own home for NO ONE else to see.  Unfortunately this messed up the rhythm of the remaining minutes (10 minutes) of my workout, which was probably a good thing cause remember all that stuff I keep on my treadmill?  Well more stuff started fallin'.  Next was my towel that I keep on one of side rails, unlike the pen it decided to stay on the edge of the treadmill (5 minutes remaining) and with 2 minutes remaining I was just done and I slowly counted down the remaining seconds of my workout.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 6.0, for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 2.83 miles.

Workout 7.1

This weeks workout is to have a brisk 5 minute walk, then jog 2.5 miles (or 25 minutes). Since this is the only option of the workout this week, I am going to try and increase my speed each day.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 5.8, for a total of 30 minutes which resulted in 2.74 miles.

Previously I determined my warm-up equaled about 0.33 miles, therefore my workout today, minus my warm-up, resulted in 2.41 miles....ohhhhh so close.

Workout 6.3

Do you ever just have one of those days...

I don't know what my problem is but I was lacking motivation today to get my run in.  As a matter of fact I was lacking motivation in doing anything today.  I actually got back into my pj's after I put Bre on the bus and climbed back into bed.  No I am not sick, I'm just well.... I don't know.

So I tell myself on days that I run, I have to be on the treadmill no later than 1 pm.  So at 1pm I am starting my workout, dreading every second, but by my 4 minute mark I am good to go, or so I thought.  9 minutes into it and while running, I just loose it, literally.  I am boo hoo'ing like a little kid and I have no clue why.  So it took me 45 minutes to complete a 30-minute workout, but at least I actually completed it.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 5.8, for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 2.59 miles.

Workout 6.2

Since I do my workout based on time, not on distance, I attempted today to better match the recommended distance for my workout with the recommended time.

Again today, I chose option 2 for my workout, which (without the warm-up walk) should result in 2.25 miles.  Since I don't want to stop after each interval to calculate how close I am coming for each one, I stopped after my warm-up walk since I do each walking section at the same speed, yet attempt to increase my speed during the jogging sections.

The warm-up walk is completed in 5-minutes, which I walk at a speed of 4.0.  I tend to complete a distance of .33 during this time, according to the treadmill.  I add 2-minutes of walking to the end of my workout so my total workout will equal 30-minutes.  This means on average, this time should equal about 0.46 miles.

Based on the distance for this workout, I am supposed to complete 2.25 miles in 23 minutes (2-10 minute jogs with a 3 minute walk in between).  So today, I increased my speed again!

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 5.8, for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 2.59 miles.  With the deduction of my warm-up and cool-down walk my total distance was 2.13.  I am closer, but it looks like on Friday, I need to increase my speed again!

Monday, September 26, 2011

Workout 6.1

Okay all you runners, do not laugh at me, but yea me!!! I increased my miles by 0.13 today!!!  I have four more weeks of workouts (including this week) to be able to run 3 miles (without my warm-up) in 30-minutes or less.

So just like last week I had three workout options to chose from.  All three start with a 5 minute brisk walk, which I do at a speed of 4.0.

Option 1: Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes), Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes), Jog 3/4 mile (or 8 minutes), Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes), Jog 1/2 mile (or 5 minutes)

Option 2: Jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes), Walk 1/4 mile (or 3 minutes), Jog 1 mile (or 10 minutes)

Option 3: Jog 2 1/4 miles (or 25 minutes)

I chose option 2 and on the second 10-minute jog I increased my speed from 5.6 to 5.8.  Unfortunately with the speeds I am doing I am still not hitting the correct mile markers, but I am getting closer.  Since, with the 5-minute warm-up and today's work out equaled a 28-minute workout, I walked 2 more minutes to make my workout out a full 30 minutes.

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0, jogged at a pace of 5.6-5.8, for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5-minute warm-up walk) resulted in 2.55 miles.

Friday, September 23, 2011

Workout 5.3

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4.0 jogged at a pace of 5.6 for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5 minute brisk walk warm-up) resulted in 2.42 miles.

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

Workout 5.2

I increased my speed today!

By increasing my speed for both walking and jogging by 0.2, I increased my miles by 0.10!  Since I do my workouts by time instead of mileage I was curious if I was even coming close to the recommended mileage.

For the workout I did today, minus the brisk walk, I should have completed 2.25 miles (I think I completed 2.10), which means I am slightly under the recommended mileage. Ughhh!

Today's workout: walked at a pace of 4 jogged at a pace of 5.6 for a total of 30 minutes (which included my 5 minute brisk walk warm-up) resulted in 2.42 miles.
