Oh the joys of doctor's appointments!

Breanna and I recently established care with a new physician since moving to Washington, in which we both had our labs drawn.  Within a few days, since we did our lab work on the weekend, I received a call stating my labs results were normal and was given the results of the more important results, such as cholesterol.  When I inquired about Breanna's results, the medical assistant told me she needed to check with the doctor and would call me back.  I received a call the next day in which the medical assistant just stated that some of her results were abnormal and the doctor recommended more lab work.  So on Monday, I called and left a message to obtain the results.  I received a message on Tuesday which stated that Breanna would need to come in to get her results, she had her appointment today.

So to top off being a little anxious to get Breanna's lab results, I was informed by the receptionist that I was not able to personally obtain her results due to her age.  She is 17.  Surely I thought this was a mistake, so I clarified with the receptionist about her comment as reminded her that Breanna is handicap (mentally she is about 3-years-old).  She again stated that due to federal law, I was not allowed to obtain her results, but she would verify with the doctor that I could go back with her to receive her results!  REALLY?????

Thankfully, I was able to go back and while the medical assistant was taking Breanna's vitals, I tried to clarify with her the conversation I had just had with the receptionist.  At the end of the appointment, once she had verified some things, came back into the room and informed Eric and I that I would have to go to court to get a court document of guardianship....UMMMM HELLO, I'm her mother! So besides having the same last name, I have the c-section scar, birth certificate, pictures, and witnesses...and yes I even have lab work verifying all of this.

So in between all of this, Eric, Breanna, and I met with her doctor to go over her last two lab results.  Long story short and for those who may not have an idea of lab ranges, Breanna's red blood count and platelets are high, her thyroid levels are off (we are doing additional testing), her calcium levels are too high (we are doing more testing), and overall her cholesterol is high.  At this time the additional testing is to check her parathyroid and check her vitamin D levels, in hopes this will explain some of her abnormal results.  The cancer word was discussed, but based on some other results that are within the normal range, the C word is not fully being considered as a diagnosis, but again we are doing further testing to rule it out.

For those of you who might want to know her actual lab results I have listed the abnormal ones only.  The labs done on October 8th were fasting labs and the 23rd labs were not.
